MISION AND VISION OF CEBAS-CSIC

The aim of CEBAS-CSIS is to generate through investigation necessary knowledge which make possible the development of strategies to achieve the sustainability of the scant resources which exist / existing in semiarid areas, through their correct management and making possible the development of a quality agriculture and obtaining healthy and safe vegetable food. The increase of the generated knowledge will make possible to contribute to taking decisions regarding the necessary rules to implement actions and policies in this regard. Besides, the research carried out will help to face very important problems such as water scarcity, create a better environment (reducing the greenhouse effect, preserving the soil, the vegetation and the organic matter). A sustainable agriculture will be guaranteed through the production of quality and healthy food and will contribute to the socioeconomic and environmental progress of future generations.
The singularity of CEBAS is that it is a multidisciplinary centre with three different areas of investigation (Agricultural Sciences, Food Science and Technology and Natural Resources), each of which operates separately but within a common context (CEBAS). Doing research work in these three areas and in a geographical area with scant resources, such as the Region de Murcia, generates a bank of knowledgeEdificio CEBAs that must be used. That is why the Vision of the centre is “to continue being a regional and national reference and to become an international reference regarding the development of high quality agriculture, and the development of healthy and safe vegetable foods in areas of scant resources, respecting, particularly, the conservation of soil and water.”

The union between the three existent research areas and their focusing on the particular problems associated with arid zones will undoubtedly be of great importance in the future. CSIC can only reinforce the research lines proposed, which will contribute to solving the aforementioned problems, particularly when the research centre in question is physically located in an area of great degradation.

RESEARCH STRATEGY
General Objective

The General Objective is to consolidate CEBAS as “centre of excellence” into CSIC, taking advantage of its capacity in order to generate and transfer knowledge through investigation in three key areas: Natural Resources, Agricultural Science, Food Science and Technology. Their aim is to attain the necessary conditions for the sustainability of the resources existing in fragile zones, especially soil and water, without giving up suitable agricultural practices which produce high quality and safe vegetable foods which provide health and well-being for consumers.
