In the field of food science and technology at CEBAS-CSIC the activity is oriented towards the study of plant foods key for the agro-food industry in the Region. This research is organised in two main lines:
- Bioactivity of plant foods.
- Quality and security of fruits and vegetables.

Work in natural resources conservation at CEBAS-CSIC is oriented towards the study of soil degradation and recuperation processes in order to contribute to the maintenance of this threatened resource in southeast Spain and to help diminish the effect of climate change. For this, research is performed in three complementary approaches:

- Enzymology and bioremediation of soils and organic wastes.
- Sustainability of soil plant systems.
- Soil erosion and conservation.

All the research activity at CEBAS-CSIC is based on basic knowledge and research but with a clear applied orientation. To foster the use of all this knowledge by the productive sectors, it has its Technology Transfer Office (TTO) - the mission of which is to promote, coordinate and manage professional relations between CEBAS-CSIC researchers and companies.
